To truly immerse yourself in the world of snooker, there are three "hidden" pillars beyond the rules and gear: The Language, The Respect, and The Culture.

Snooker players have their own dialect. If you want to understand the commentators, you need to know these:
A "Kick": A bad contact between the balls that causes them to jump or deviate. (Avoided by using Taom chalk!)
A "Fluke": Potting a ball by complete accident. It’s good for your score, but bad for your soul.
"In-Off": When the white cue ball goes into a pocket (a foul).
A "Plant": Hitting one red ball into another to pot the second one.
A "Cannon": Hitting your target ball and then intentionally bumping into another ball to move it into a better position.
A "Century": Scoring 100 points or more in a single visit (the hallmark of a pro).
"Bottling it": A slang term for losing your nerve under pressure.
Snooker is the "Gentleman’s Game." Breaking these unwritten rules is often considered worse than committing a foul:
The Apology: If you get a "Fluke" (a lucky shot), it is customary to raise your hand slightly toward your opponent as a silent "I'm sorry." Never celebrate a lucky shot!
The "Table Tap": When your opponent plays an incredible shot, tap the side of the table or the rail with your hand to acknowledge it.
The Quiet Zone: Never move, chalk your cue loudly, or stand in your opponent’s line of sight while they are down on a shot.
Owning Your Fouls: If you feather the white ball with your cue and the referee doesn't see it, you are expected to declare the foul on yourself. Honesty is everything.
